LifeHouse Mission

LifeHouse is a Christ-Centered ministry ensuring life for unborn children by providing opportunities for housing, help and hope for women during their pregnancies and beyond.

LifeHouse desires to turn the crisis of unplanned pregnancy into an opportunity for growth for a pregnant woman and to ensure life for her unborn child. Every woman who comes to LifeHouse receives resources, discipleship, life-skills classes, and parenting support all within a Christian family home setting.

From our maternity housing program to our LifeHouse alumnae program, LifeHouse walks alongside women not only during their pregnancy but for the rest of their lives.

Our History

In the early 1980's, a pastor delivered his final sermon at a community church in a quiet southeast Houston neighborhood. Before moving to a new facility, congregants prayed that God would again use that property for His purposes and glory.

Developers renovated the house of worship into a private residence that eventually fell into the hands of squatters. In 1988, a group of young adults, representing several Houston churches, prayerfully considered creating a safe place for young women experiencing unplanned pregnancies. The group found the now vacant home, a mere two miles away from the largest Planned Parenthood facility in the western hemisphere. A grassroots fundraising campaign yielded enough money to purchase the property and create a shelter for women choosing life for their unborn children. Serendipitously, the residents' now bedroom once served as the church's altar.

Almost 30 years later, LifeHouse continues to change and save lives, two at a time. An additional home adjacent to the original property was purchased in 2007, doubling the number of beds and creating a beautiful campus. Residents arrive at LifeHouse via crisis pregnancy centers, churches, school guidance counselors, family members, or an internet search. Regardless of how God brings them to LifeHouse, each woman is greeted by Christian house parents who care for their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being until she delivers her baby or secures alternate living arrangements.

LifeHouse remains only one of two maternity home's in a 14-county area open to minors as young as 12 years old. All residents benefit from cost-free lodging, meals, pre-natal care, life skills training, counseling, access to work/school, and God's overwhelming love. Life-affirming and life-changing, the ministry marvels at Godʼs faithfulness to an original prayer that, to date, has blessed more than 600 women -- and their unborn children -- with housing, healing and, most of all, hope.

We believe

healing the family unit is healing to the city of Houston.

The ministry has also launched extended services, including the LifeLine Alumnae Program and Seed Two Harvest, to continue to walk alongside moms long after they give birth.
When a woman comes to LifeHouse, she is welcomed with open arms by Christian house parents who care for her physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. This family model of ministry provides her love with structure, and is often her first example of healthy, supportive community. LifeHouse provides her with a forever family centered on Christ.

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

Life-affirming and life-changing, the ministry marvels at God's faithfulness to an original prayer. To date, LifeHouse has served over 1000 women — and their unborn children — through residential housing, LifeLine, and community support. Each of these programs blesses women and their children with housing, healing, and most of all, hope. Praise God!
